CONNECTING, BUILDING, LEARNING AND GROWING TOGETHER!

CONNECTING, BUILDING, LEARNING AND GROWING TOGETHER!

Black Homeschoolers of Central Florida, Inc. is a village, a place that homeschoolers call home. We provide a safe, supportive, and learning environment for our homeschooling families, which is especially important for families of color that may not get the support they need in other places.

We provide classes, resources and information, options, and events curtailed to meet the needs of our families. At BHCFL, families find a welcoming village environment that provides support and guidance, and equips the parents with the skills & confidence they need to be successful on their homeschooling journey. Our youth flourish in an environment where their culture and history is celebrated and explored. This village encourages education, self love, and growth. Not only does Black Homeschoolers of Central Florida help build friendships, but in our village, friends become family.

It Takes A Village!

Since its founding in 2009, Black Homeschoolers of Central Florida, Inc. has made tremendous community impact!

Black Homeschoolers of Central Florida, Inc. has served homeschooling families throughout Central Florida since 2009. We provide education, support, resources, community, and meaningful learning opportunities for homeschooling families, with a particular commitment to Black families and other families of color.

BHCFL serves children and youth from early childhood through high school, as well as older youth preparing for college, careers, and the workforce. Through our Homeschool Resource Center, Learning Center, and family-centered network, we provide academic enrichment, cultural education, leadership development, college and career readiness, workforce development, financial education, entrepreneurship, mentorship, technology access, educational resources, field trips, guest speakers, and hands-on learning experiences. We offer in-person and virtual classes and have established Youth and Parent Clubs including a Science National Honor Society Club. We also have internship opportunities in partnership with Stetson University's Bonner Program.

Our educational programs are designed to help scholars learn beyond the traditional classroom. Students participate in opportunities that expose them to colleges and universities, businesses, career fields, community organizations, STEM, the arts, financial literacy, civic engagement, global studies, and other real-world experiences. These opportunities help young people build knowledge, confidence, communication skills, leadership abilities, and practical skills for their future.

BHCFL also recognizes that successful homeschooling requires supported and equipped parents. We provide parents with information, resources, workshops, community connections, educational support, and practical tools that help them confidently guide their children's education. Families also have opportunities to connect through field trips, family activities, retreats, educational travel, community service, and other shared experiences that strengthen relationships and build lasting community.

Our programs include academic and enrichment classes, cultural learning experiences, college and career preparation, workforce development, financial empowerment and entrepreneurship, leadership development, outdoor recreation, family programming, educational field trips, community service, resource sharing, and annual recognition and graduation activities.

BHCFL partners with colleges and universities, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and community partners to expand the educational and career opportunities available to our scholars and families.

At the heart of Black Homeschoolers of Central Florida is our belief that “It Takes a Village.” BHCFL is more than a collection of programs—it is a community where homeschooling families can connect, build, learn, and grow together. We strive to provide an environment where parents feel supported, children feel seen and valued, and the culture, history, accomplishments, and experiences of Black people and other communities of color are celebrated and explored.

Our village helps parents develop the confidence and tools they need to successfully educate their children while providing youth with opportunities to discover their strengths, develop their talents, build meaningful relationships, and prepare for college, careers, leadership, and life.

Our BHCFL Homeschool Resource Center serves as the heart of our village—“A Place Homeschoolers Call Home.” Here, families can access tutoring, hybrid classes, educational consultations, workshops, and testing services in a peaceful, nurturing environment. The center provides a space for collaboration, connection, and support, helping to remove barriers that often hinder underrepresented homeschooling families.

Just steps away, the BHCFL Learning Center—“Explore. Create. Thrive.”—invites students to engage in hands-on learning experiences in art, music, sewing, podcasting, cooking, dance, and self-defense. With dedicated studios and creative spaces, the Learning Center inspires exploration, imagination, and innovation. It’s where our youth can develop their talents, embrace their culture, and express themselves freely.

These efforts reflect the commitment BHCFL makes to homeschooled youth and their families, supporters, and the communities we serve to close the opportunity gap for those who need us most.

The core of our work lies in the continuous passion and dedication we bring to the range of projects we take part in. Please join us by supporting our efforts to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
